A 22 bed sub-acute ward located in the Peacock Building at the Hobart Repatriation Hospital.

The challenges involved in this project included;

  • A working hospital on levels above and below the works – noise and dust minimisation.

  • Maintaining whole of site infrastructure such as medical gases and suction, security systems, nurse call and generator.

  • Chillers and boilers being upgraded concurrently under a separate contract.

  • Fire rating between floors and access to ceilings below for services through floor.

  • Infection control measures.

  • Existing deep beams impeding required access.

  • Documentation completed prior to demolition being completed. Many hidden risers became apparent.

  • Rationalising IT infrastructure.

Key engineering features of the project included;

  • Ducted air conditioning systems from central chillers and boilers.

  • Medical Air, Oxygen and suction systems.

  • Switchboard upgrades and interface to existing MSB and generator.

  • Body protected areas throughout.

  • Nurse call systems interfaced to wireless handsets and MATV.

  • Extension of existing Access Control and CCTV systems.

  • Fire sprinkler and smoke detection systems.
